Our Story
Our journey began with a simple but powerful idea: used coffee grounds shouldn’t be waste.
In 2021, we set out to find a better use for the millions of kilograms of coffee granules discarded every year. What started as a hands-on passion project quickly evolved into a scalable solution — turning an overlooked waste stream into valuable, low-carbon products.
Today, Bio Bean SA is a pioneering South African circular economy business, transforming spent coffee grounds into practical solutions that reduce landfill, lower emissions, and replace traditional fossil-based alternatives.

These talented local makers craft cooler bags, lunch bags and a range of everyday carry items, using the very materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. Through this initiative, 100% of the proceeds remain with them, helping finance their livelihoods, grow their micro-businesses, and support their families.
